The Meeting

We had a great meeting last night, blocking out the locations of the venue, and confirming with Liz our Paris Fairgrounds contact all of the ‘nitty gritty’ details of the event.

It’s shaping up to be super.  Let’s keep the vibe good and the energy level high.  The next meeting date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but I will keep you all posted.

REMINDER

A missive from our leader Lynn!!

A reminder that the meeting tonight is at the fairgrounds at 7pm.  We are seeing all the parts of the facility, including the kitchen!

Any items requiring attention tonight, please email me and we shall briefly discuss, etc whilst in Paris.

If you are not able to be there, please email me by 4:30pm, so we don’t wait for your arrival!

I know Lana is not there this evening and that Italian girl, Heathereno, and her friend, Shaylee!

Hope to see all others.

Another Coup for HH4H

Well everyone, I think we need to give Lana a HUGE pat on the back for a job well done.  Without mentioning the specifics, I will tell you all that it appears we will be picked up in one of Canada’s leading national monthly publications!!!

Now, if I understand things correctly, the publishing date is usually 1 year ahead of the reasearch, so don’t look for us anytime soon on the magazine rack.  I’ll keep you all posted as the news becomes public.

Good work Lana, and cheers everyone for your continued dedication to Heather.

They’re coming out of the woodwork

Not just the ants, but the generous volunteers!

Heather M-H and Martha spent the weekend trying with no success what-so-ever to get the new banner up on the blog. So, we did what we always do…we looked for some expertise from another generous person.

My life long friend Todd Wilkinson, CEO and Co-Founder of Respectance.com, Picalily.com and iizt.com was kind enough to arrange the banner AND for the registration of our own domain name.!

We are now HH4H.ca

Thanks again Todd. I’ve got your tickets.

Oh My Gosh, Let’s Talk Scalability Now

Wow, our ‘little gathering’ that we planned last year to raise money for Heather is growing fast!  To be honest it’s downright scary!  I think some of our board members are getting ‘the vapours’ of late.  We met the other night and discussed how many tickets to have printed.  The starting figure was HUGE.  I remember last year when Heather feared that no one would come and we had something like 2000 people buy tickets.

This year we’re talking thousands and thousands, wrist bands, committees, sub-committees, insurance forms, and food!  Poor Annie needs some assurance that we’ll have enough food for the people, or, more importantly – enough people for the food she’s planning to make!

Scalability (which I’ve talked about before) is the key.  We learned lots last year and the committee is filled with intelligent, savvy women (and Bill) who know how to get a job done well, efficiently and who to call to get the much needed donations to ensure we make the most money possible for ALS, Dr. Strong and to honour Heather.  We’ve mastered the art of delegation.  Most importantly we’ve kept our sense of humour.

I am going to take this chance to give all the volunteers a well deserved pat on the back.  Let’s all keep up the good work.

Thanks to:

Lynn, Karen M., Lana, Karen B., Norma, Teri, Maria, Jennifer, Bill, Connie, Heather, Shelley, Libby, Sandy,  Karen,  Christina, Pat B, Pat R and anyone I’ve forgotten to mention!

When the Musical Spirit Moves You

Posted by Philly Markowitz on May 1, 2008 at 12:01 AM

Two great concerts from the Glenn Gould Studio tonight on Canada Live tonight: Gregory Hoskins followed by Harry Manx.
Gregory Hoskins is one of those “best kept secrets” type of artists. Those who have come across him and his musical friends generally describe the live concerts more as “communion” than entertainment. Pun intended – one of Hoskins’s first gigs was to open for Mother Theresa… yes, THAT one, from Calcutta. Hoskins has been working away at music for the better part of 20 years, balancing his career with family in a way that few full-time musicians choose.
This performance is a one-time-only attempt to capture the “Hoskins spirit” in a live concert recording.
The evening will also include half the program arranged for strings, courtesy of international award winning composer Jonathan Goldsmith. Not happy to tread where others have gone before, the strings have been arranged for 2 distinct quartets operating as separate identities on stage, coming together only occasionally. The result is a highly innovative, intoxicating high wire act. With all this musical firepower on stage, this is no ordinary presentation of a singer/songwriter, but an elevation of the genre.
